A project to improve indoor air quality and solve water incursion issues also created $3.6 million in projected energy and operational savings for General Fund relief.
CHALLENGE
To address infrastructure challenges including water incursion and indoor air quality concerns, the Jeannette City School District wanted a comprehensive project to address facility construction issues and aging ventilation systems.
To address a list of facility improvements impacting school safety, security, and health, Jeannette leadership sought a fiscally responsible and proactive solution for pressing capital needs impacting students and teachers.
“This project does more than address facility priorities now, it supports our district’s long-term financial strategy with guaranteed cost savings so we can direct greater local resources to our school community’s needs. ABM helped our district leaders create solutions to ensure that the Jeannette Jayhawk kindergarteners of 2021 will benefit from this project all the way through senior year.” — Matthew Jones, Superintendent of Jeannette City School District
SOLUTION
ABM’s custom solution created a projected $3.6 million in energy and operating cost savings that Jeannette School District plans to use for General Fund relief. In addition to improved lighting, HVAC, and building controls, the project abated health and safety issues from water incursion and included Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization technology, a pathogen and particle control measure for ventilation systems.
Prioritizing School Infrastructure for Long-Term Financial Stewardship
By utilizing a multifaceted funding strategy including bond refinance, ESSER stimulus dollars, and strategic use of capital improvement funds, Jeannette City School District was able to fund the project without additional debt and direct all of the energy and operational savings created by ABM to future General Fund relief.
